Tokonomix in Cursor

This guide shows how to add the Tokonomix consensus MCP server to Cursor so the AI assistant can call a multi-model council for review gates, security checks, and fact-checking.

Prerequisites

• A Tokonomix API key (tok_live_...) — obtain one from https://tokonomix.ai
• Node.js 18+ (for npx)
• Cursor with MCP support enabled (Settings → Features → MCP)

Step 1 — Open Cursor MCP settings

1. Open the Command Palette (Cmd+Shift+P / Ctrl+Shift+P)
2. Search for "Cursor Settings" → Features → MCP
3. Click "Add MCP Server"

Or edit ~/.cursor/mcp.json (global) or .cursor/mcp.json (project-level) directly.

Step 2 — Add the server configuration

Security note: prefer a project-level .cursor/mcp.json so the key is not stored globally. Add .cursor/mcp.json to .gitignore to avoid committing the key.

Step 3 — Verify the connection

Open a Cursor chat. In the MCP panel (if visible) you should see tokonomix with a green indicator. Alternatively, ask the assistant:

List the tools available from the tokonomix MCP server.

Expected response: a list including tokonomix_consensus_ask, tokonomix_single_ask, etc.

Step 4 — Use the consensus tools

Ask for a cross-model review

@tokonomix Use tokonomix_consensus_ask to review this migration SQL for data-loss risks:

The assistant will call the tool, submit the SQL to a multi-model council, and present the synthesised verdict with any disagreements highlighted.

Step 5 — Use the gateway directly (OpenAI-compatible)

You can also configure Cursor to use the Tokonomix gateway as an OpenAI-compatible provider for its built-in model list. In Cursor Settings → Models → Add Model:

This lets you pick any gateway-reachable model (e.g. claude-sonnet-4-6, gpt-4o, gemini-2.5-pro) directly from the Cursor model dropdown, without separate provider keys.

Important: Cursor's built-in model picker is for chat only. For consensus, images, embeddings, and audio — use the MCP tools or write scripts that call the gateway directly.
